Ministry of Higher Education has announced the project to develop a state-of-the-art Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre in Alifushi, Raa Atoll.
The development of TVET centres across the country is part of the government’s plans to build the human resource capacity of various sectors and prepare more youth for the employment market. The TVET centre to be developed in Alifushi would specialise in boat building courses, but would include vocational courses in some other fields as well.
The higher education ministry revealed the Alifushi TVET centre would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a boatyard, carpentry workshop, machine workshop, multi-purpose workshop, six classrooms and an ICT laboratory. The centre will also include an administrative area, staff room, student services area, an auditorium, meeting rooms, study rooms and a library.
Furthermore, the TVET centre in Alifushi will include an accommodation block with a capacity of 58 students. The centre will also include a gymnasium, activity centre and a prayer room.
Ministry of Finance has issued an announcement seeking contractors to design and build the TVET centre in Alifushi. Bid submission for the project will be carried out on January 11, 2022.
