Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed the company has carried out harbour development projects in 23 different islands over the last three years, while another 34 harbour development projects are currently ongoing.
In a press statement released to mark the completion of the harbour development project in Fehendhoo, Baa Atoll, MTCC revealed the company is currently undertaking 62 infrastructure development projects across the Maldives, including 34 harbour projects. MTCC noted 23 harbour projects have been completed over the last three years, easing the difficulties faced in transport of people and goods to and from these islands.
The harbour development project in Fehendhoo was completed by MTCC on November 20, 2021. Under the project, MTCC constructed a 214-metre quay, 317-metre revetment, 130-metre breakwater and an 812-metre bridge connecting the harbour to the island.
MTCC is the largest public contractor in the Maldives. The government owns 69% shares of the company, with the remaining 31% shares owned by the public. The company has significantly expanded its operations over the last few years, increasing its workforce to over 3,000 people.
