MWSC begins laying pipeline for water and sewerage project in Goidhoo

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced work to lay the pipeline for the water and sewerage project in Goidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.

The work was officially inaugurated at a ceremony attended by Parliamentarian for Kanditheemu constutuency Abdulla Shaheem Abdul Hakeem, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah, President of Shaviyani Atoll Council Mohamed Shiyam, and President of Goidhoo Island Council Ibrahim Shahid.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah noted the company is carrying out many similar projects across the country as part of the government’s pledge to establish water and sewerage systems in all inhabited islands of the Maldives. Shah said the project will enable the people of Goidhoo to have access to clean water and a safe sewerage system, adding the project will bring many social and economic benefits to the island.

The scope of the project includes developing a 12-kilometre water supply network with two RO plants and connections to 250 households. The project also involves building 4 pumping stations, a sea outfall and sewerage connections to 260 households.

MWSC is tasked with completing the project within 540 days at a cost of USD 5.57 million.
