Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has established the Strategic Policing Requirement for the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Home Minister Imran informed Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed on the matter on November 25. The home ministry stated the police commissioner has been given instructions to implement the Strategic Policing Requirement immediately.
Minister Imran has instructed Commissioner Hameed to implement the requirement while planning various policing activities. The minister formulated the requirement based on the principles and standards of policing as well as the current level of threat within the country and the changes in crime.
The home minister said the purpose of the requirement is to further improve the services provided by MPS and to stop major crimes and maintain peace and stability in the country. He also said the MPS has been instructed to follow the requirement until a new Strategic Policing Requirement is established.
