The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has taken over some of the most important projects previously assigned to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), with work continuing on the projects, MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee has said.
The Government has decided to bring RDC under MTCC, with the transition process currently under way.
Speaking on the Dhivehi Raajeyge Adu programme Ahaashey Bunaanan, Saudee said RDC had been handling 279 projects at various stages of implementation. He said preparations were under way to ensure MTCC could continue the projects.
Saudee said agreements between RDC and its clients were being revised to comply with the Public Finance Act. Work was also under way to ensure that important projects covered by framework agreements could proceed without interruption.
The Government had assigned RDC numerous road construction projects across the Maldives, alongside projects in other sectors during the past year and this year.
The projects assigned to RDC include developments in sports, healthcare and education. Machinery and equipment have also been brought in this year to support the implementation of these projects.
MTCC is also undertaking numerous projects across the country. Although the company was assigned 174 projects when the current Government took office, work had commenced on only 40 of them at that time.
MTCC is now handling around 300 projects at various stages of implementation, including numerous land reclamation projects. The Government has decided to acquire an additional large dredger to accelerate the progress of these works.
