Maldives Customs Service has revealed over USD 246 million worth of goods were imported to the Maldives in October 2021.
As per the latest statistics released by Customs, more than USD 246 million worth of goods were imported in October, recording the highest import figure since January 2020. Customs stated this is also a significant increase compared to the USD 129.4 million imported in October 2020.
However, Customs revealed the import-export revenue generated by the state in October had decreased compared to October 2020. As such, Customs revealed the state generated an import-export revenue of USD 19 million in October, down 31% from the USD 27.5 million generated in October 2020.
The statistics further revealed the largest imports in October came from Oman, India, UAE and China. As such, USD 33.1 million worth of goods were imported from Oman, while USD 31.7 million worth of goods were imported from India. Meanwhile, UAE and China contributed USD 28.4 million and USD 28.3 million of the imports respectively.
The largest share of exports in October was contributed by Thailand, with 55% of exports. Meanwhile, Germany contributed 16% of total exports.
Customs said it had received USD 174,800 in royalties during October. It had also issued declaration for 18,403 vessels, and granted entry permission to 127 vessels and exit permission to 118 vessels.
