Candidates from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) have won the by-election of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Villingili, Gaafu Alifu atoll and Kurendhoo, Lhaviyani atoll.
As such, a candidate from PPM and an independent candidate had contested in the by-election of the Villingili WDC, while a candidate from PPM and from MDP contested in the by-election of the Kurendhoo WDC.
PPM candidate Shahuma Muhusin won the by-election of the Villingili WDC with 400 votes. The independent candidate Mariyam Rasheeda got 333 votes. A total of 2,640 people were eligible to vote in the Villingili by-election, while only 749 people cast their vote.
Meanwhile, MDP candidate Aminath Nizaamaa won the by-election of Kurendhoo WDC with 437 votes while PPM candidate Azeeza Abdulla received 245 votes. A total of 1,533 people were eligible to vote in the Kurendhoo by-election, while only 692 people voted.
The final results of the by-election will be announced on November 1.
