Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 200,000 tourists are expected to visit the Maldives in the next two months.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ahmed Athif said the Maldives is currently recording 4,000 daily tourist arrivals, which is expected to result in over 200,000 tourist visits in the next months. The deputy minister noted that another reason for the expected large number of tourist arrivals is the upcoming high season for tourism. He also said many countries are expected re-open their borders within the next year, resulting in more tourist visits. He said the government reached its target of one million tourist visits for this year two months early due to the hard work and commitment of stakeholders in the Maldives tourism industry.
Furthermore, Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Aishath Nisha said numerous marketing campaigns have begun to advertise the Maldives as a leading travel destination. She said the purpose of the marketing campaigns is to retain the Maldives as a top-of-the-mind destination, even in countries that currently have their borders closed. She added that MMPRC is working to expand its efforts to tap into new markets and attract more travellers while also retaining the existing markets.
Statistics from the tourism ministry show most tourists currently visiting the Maldives are from India and Russia.
