Maldives and the European Union (EU) have held discussions on enhancing cooperation in addressing shared regional and global challenges.
The discussion took place when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel received the Ambassador of the EU to the Maldives, Maria Carmen Moreno Raymundo as part of her ongoing visit to the Maldives on Thursday.
During the meeting, Minister Dr Khaleel and Ambassador Moreno reflected on the growing partnership between the Maldives and the European Union and acknowledged the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing shared regional and global challenges.
Discussed key areas for enhanced collaboration, including climate change, environmental protection, good governance, democracy and counter terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dr Khaleel reaffirmed the Maldives' firm commitment to deepening cooperation with the European Union, particularly in advancing inclusive and sustainable development, promoting democratic resilience, and fostering long-term partnerships.
Ambassador Moreno expressed her intent to further elevate EU-Maldives relations, it added.
Minister Dr Khaleel was accompanied by Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Ambassador-at-Large, Abdullah Hameed, Senior Under Secretary Hassan Hussain Shihab and Senior Political Director Ahmed Haanee Naeem.
