MPL inaugurates new security building at Hulhumale' International Terminal

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has inaugurated a new security building at the Hulhumale' International Terminal.

CEO Shahid Ali inaugurated the new building at a special ceremony with Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Suhail Ahmed and Commissioner General of Maldives Customs Abdulla Shareef. MPL stated the security building was established to further strengthen the security and cargo handling operations to meet the growing demand.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Shahid noted the work being done to improve services at the Hulhumale' terminal due to increasing demand. He said the terminal has cleared 60,000 units since 2015 and that an average of 60 to 70 containers are brought to Hulhumale'. He noted major improvements have been brought to the Hulhumale' port in the last three years and noted that Hulhumale' port employees still lack the necessary office space.

Also at the ceremony, the Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed said land will be allocated for the Hulhumale' port office building and HDC is working with MPL to expand services at the Hulhumale' local port. Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef said the use of modern technology will strengthen security and stop the import of contraband, especially narcotics.

The Hulhumale' Port was used to store empty containers before MPL began clearing goods at the port in 2015.
