Gov't to supply sea ambulances to Alifu Alifu atoll next year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the government will supply sea ambulances to Alifu Alifu Atoll next year. He made the statement during a meeting with members of the Alifu Alifu Atoll Council.

During the meeting, the atoll council briefed President Solih on the development plans for Alifu Alifu Atoll and relayed details on the pressing issues faced by atoll residents. The councillors focused on the struggles confronted by the atoll council as a result of a lack of funds and requested President Solih to assist them in establishing additional revenue-generating opportunities.

Furthermore, the councillors requested for the atoll hospital development project to be initiated sooner and highlighted the issues faced currently as a result of the delay in initiating work on the solar power project. The councillors also noted concerns regarding revenue generation from the atoll shop and requested assistance in facilitating the acquisition of the income to the atoll council. They also relayed difficulties faced due to the lack of a sea ambulance in the atoll, and underlined their priority to develop all islands of the atoll equally, and highlighted the importance of having a registry.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih said the government will take necessary action to solve the issues raised in the meeting, after discussing with the ministries. The president also said the hospital development project will be carried out with financial assistance from Kuwait. He added the government is currently working on a registry that contains the aggregated data from all islands of the Maldives in one place.
