The inception report for the Maldives’ 20-Year National Development Plan has been shared with stakeholders by Nexia Maldives Private Limited, the firm tasked with formulating the strategy.
At a meeting held at Umar Zahir Building, Hamid Sadiq, Team Leader of the National Development Plan Project, presented the work plan and stakeholder engagement strategy. The session also introduced the core group working on the project, and outlined the methodology and stakeholder participation plan.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
According to Nexia, the next step following the inception report is the second phase of the project, focused on collecting information needed to formulate the plan. This stage will involve close consultation with experts, public opinion surveys, focus group discussions, and stakeholder meetings.
Based on the data gathered, a first draft of the plan will be prepared. Expert advice will then be sought and the plan will be finalised and formally submitted.
Nexia was awarded the formulation of the 20-year National Development Plan earlier this month. The main objective of the National Development Plan is to develop a long-term strategic framework to guide government policies, investments and national development plans over the next 20 years. According to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the plan will prioritise the country’s pressing economic, social, environmental and structural challenges while also keeping sustainable development in mind.
