Customs reports 137% rise in revenue in September

Maldives Customs Service has reported a 137% rise in revenue in September compared to the same period of last year.

The statistics show Customs received USD 18 million in revenue in September. It also shows the Maldives imported goods worth USD 234 million in September 2021, which is an increase of 90% compared to the goods imported in September 2020.

In September 2021, the Maldives imported mechanical and electrical appliances worth USD 48 million, fuel worth USD 45 million, and food items worth USD 38 million. Around 17% of the goods were imported from Oman, while 13% were imported from China, and 12% were imported from India.

Furthermore, the statistics show a decrease in exports in September this year compared to the same month last year. Maldives exported goods worth USD 21 million in September 2021, which is a decrease of 13% compared to the goods exported in September 2020.

The majority of exports were frozen fish products, including fresh or chilled yellowfin tuna worth USD 4.5 million, and preserved or prepared skipjack tuna worth USD 2.4 million. Around 42% of products from the Maldives were exported to Thailand, while 12% were exported to Germany.
