International firms are interested in Maldives mice tourism: MMPRC

Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thoyyib Mohamed has revealed international businesses are interested in setting up meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tourism businesses in the country.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Thoyyib said the Maldives currently has a few MICE tourism businesses. Thoyyib said MMPRC plans to expand MICE tourism and has held a marketing campaign at the annual MICE India and Luxury Travel Congress. The purpose of the campaign was to provide information on the opportunities for MICE tourism in the Maldives for attendants at the congress, he said.

He highlighted the success of the campaign and said international companies have expressed interest in establishing MICE tourism businesses in the Maldives.

Marketing Director of Villa Hotels and Resorts Ali Rasheed also confirmed that businesses are interested in the Maldives, especially large Indian companies. He noted the low number of Maldivian businesses that participated in the congress and encouraged more Maldivians to join such events in the future.

He also said the Maldives is yet to focus on expanding MICE tourism in the country and that there is potential for growth.
