MIRA and NCB sign agreement to stop tax-related crimes

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and Interpol National Central Bureau for the Maldives (NCB) have signed an agreement to stop tax-related crimes. The agreement was signed by Commissioner General of Taxation Fathuhulla Jameel and Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed.

MIRA stated the purpose of the agreement is to build inter-agency cooperation between MIRA, the Maldives Police Service (MPS), and Interpol. The agreement allows NCB to provide information and criminal records of individuals who committed tax evasion or fraud to MIRA.
NCB will also provide information to the revenue authority on groups involved in tax-related crimes.

Additionally, MIRA is working with international organisations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Tax Inspectors without Borders Programme to improve its tax collection mechanism. MIRA is also providing training to its employees as part of its efforts to improve services.

MIRA is an autonomous body responsible for tax administration, which was established after the modern tax system was established in the Maldives in 2010.
