Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has decided to visit Japan in his capacity as the president-elect of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The foreign minister will make the official visit from August 26-28 at the invitation of the Government of Japan. During the visit, Minister Shahid will make a courtesy call on Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga, and will also meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan expects the visit to promote the various efforts for the international contribution that Japan is pursuing at the United Nations and strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the organisation.
Moreover, the visit will provide an opportunity for both the minister, in his capacity as the president-elect, and the Government of Japan to hold close consultations on enhancing cooperation within the auspices of the UNGA.
The visit will also focus on bilateral aspects of the relationship between the Maldives and Japan.
