Huawei Technologies formally inaugurated its corporate social responsibility initiative, 'Seeds for the Future 2025', in the Maldives this week, selecting four students for a technology and cultural immersion programme in China. The announcement was delivered during a ceremony held Monday in Malé.
The ceremony drew a number of senior officials. Among them were Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development; Kong Xianhua, China's Ambassador to the Maldives; and Chen Keyang, Huawei's Country Director in Malé.
The initiative itself stands as a cornerstone of Huawei's international educational outreach, offering students the opportunity to interact with emerging technologies, cultivate entrepreneurial thinking and engage in cross-cultural learning. Those selected for the 2025 cohort were introduced during the event, having emerged through a competitive application process.
Representing institutions across the nation, the chosen participants include Zayan Abdulla Nazil and Yoosuf Ayaan Musthaq of Villa College, Iyan Azeez from Maldives National University, and Afaa Ismail of Zikura International College. Each is now preparing to undertake the programme’s intensive training component in China, which centres on developing technical expertise and industry-relevant competencies.
