President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the funds needed for projects planned by the Veymandoo Island Council will be allocated in the state budget for the upcoming year. He made the statement in a meeting with councillors from Veymandoo Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) during his visit to Veymandoo, Thaa Atoll.
Speaking at the meeting, members of the WDC expressed gratitude for the government's efforts in empowering women through facilitating more opportunities for women as well as granting legal empowerment. The members briefed the president on their work and highlighted the limited resource availability at the preschool and stressed the importance of parks and an outdoor gym facility for the improvement of the social well-being of the islanders.
Furthermore, members of the Veymandoo Council shared details of issues faced by the island community, including the development of roads, preventing beach erosion, waste management, hospital upgrade, and land reclamation. Speaking at the meeting, President Solih shared the latest details into the issues noted by the councillors and revealed that some of the issues will be resolved as funds would be allocated in the annual government budget for the upcoming year.
During his visit to Veymandoo, President Solih visited the Family and Children's Service Centre (FCSC) where he spoke to the employees and inquired about their needs and concerns in the smooth operation of the facility.
Following his visit to the FCSC, President Solih visited Veymandoo School, where he toured the facility and met with students, teachers and the management. He also held discussions regarding the needs of the school and requirements to improve the education provided at the facility.
President Solih's visit to Veymandoo was the fourth destination in his tour of Thaa Atoll.
