Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has said the government is working to find solutions to internal security problems after studying and identifying the underlying issues.
Speaking on the government’s achievements over the last three years at the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Congress 2026, Minister Ihusaan said since taking office, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu sought solutions for challenges faced by the country through research to identify the issues.
According to the minister, the President identified four main areas to focus on, including drugs, gang crime, illegal migration, and protecting young people from criminal environments. The President studied why previous governments had failed to adequately address these issues, and sought to address them through restructuring the government. He noted that the President’s decision to bring agencies previously divided among different ministries under one ministry made it easier to plan and coordinate work addressing the four key issues.
In addition to these areas, the government also aims to improve prison conditions. The government is also giving priority to digitising the country, he said.
Outlining government plans to tackle the four focus areas, the minister said the government is working to prevent drug smuggling by closing routes used for trafficking, and to rehabilitate children affected by drug addiction and reintegrate them into society. On gang crime, the minister said the enactment of a special law in 2025 to prevent gang crimes is strengthening action against gang and organised crimes. He also said the government is working to increase prison capacity and strengthen security.
