The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has begun a campaign to increase its membership by 10,000 by the end of August.
Speaking in a press conference, Spokesperson Heena Waleed said with the launching of the membership drive, it is an aim to increase the membership by an additional 10,000 by the end of August. PPM has held series of such campaigning activities throughout past years, which COVID-19 forced a stop to during last year, she added.
PPM stated activities to increase the membership will be held across the Maldives. PPM further stated teams will visit households in Greater Male' Region and steering committees will conduct activities in the atolls.
According to statistics of the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), PPM has 37,093 registered members as of June 30. The largest party in the country and the main ruling party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has 53,139 registered members.
