Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the curfew imposed in the Greater Male' Region, further easing restrictions imposed across the country.
The government strengthened restrictions in May to curb the spread of COVID-19. As such, from May 12 onwards, a curfew was been imposed from 1600hrs until 0400hrs in the Greater Male' Region, restricting services provided by food outlets.
However, the HPA has now lifted the curfew imposed in the Greater Male' Region. In addition, HPA has also eased some of the restrictions imposed in the Greater Male' Region. As such, travelling between islands has been permitted for those individuals who have completed the second dose of CVODI-19 vaccines. However, the islands must not be under monitoring, and individuals who are travelling must have completed the doses at least 14-days prior to the travelling date.
Further, cinemas in the Greater Male' Region are permitted to operate within the guidelines. HPA has also eased restrictions on holding public gatherings. In this regard, gatherings, parties, and other social events consisting of less than 30 people can be held within the guidelines.
Moreover, travel restrictions have been eased for resort workers. The government now allows fully vaccinated resort staff to travel to their islands without quarantine if they are negative for COVID-19. However, residential or resort islands under monitoring are exempted from the eases.
Furthermore, the borders of the Maldives would be opened for travellers from South Asian countries on August 15. HPA also has allowed travellers from South Asian countries to stay in guesthouses in the islands, in addition to resorts. However, travellers must provide a negative test for COVID-19 upon arrival in the Maldives.
HPA said it is currently working to vaccinate at least 60 percent of the residents in the islands that operate guesthouses and 95 percent of the employees in such entities.
