Over 170 women complete Viluntheri Kanbalun’ technical training programme

Certificates have been awarded to over 170 graduates who completed the 'Viluntheri Kanbalun' training programme. The certificates were awarded to the participants by the First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

The programme was conducted jointly by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT), with the primary objective of empowering women in technical fields, fostering self-reliance, and building self-confidence.

Speaking at the certificate awarding ceremony, HDC’s Managing Director Ali Zuhair encouraged participants to take leadership roles and contribute to the development of Hulhumale’. He said HDC plans to increase such programmes for the greater benefit of Hulhumale’.

The programme has been expanded since 2023 because of strong public interest. The most recent training included repairing household electrical appliances and fixing common motorcycle problems. The programme was held over three months in eight batches, with a total of 264 participants.

Under an agreement between the two parties, HDC and MIT also plan to introduce skills-development programmes for people with disabilities and young people in the future.
