President's Office reopens applications for Information Commissioner

The President's Office has reopened applications for the vacant post of information commissioner for a third time.

The President's Office stated individuals interested in the position can submit their application forms to the President's Office between 1030hrs and 1230hrs on July 12 and July 13. Application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the President's Office. The President's Office reopened applications for the post of information commissioner after the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions rejected the previous nominations.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted three nominations to the Parliament in April. The parliamentary committee began reviewing the nominations on April 26 and had completed the interview process of the nominated individuals. However, none of the nominees received enough votes from the committee members to receive approval.

The Information Commissioner's Office was established on July 13, 2014, as per Article 43(a) of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The information commissioner is mandated with the enforcement of the RTI Act, which defines the right to access and obtain information from any state institution and encourages the widest circulation of information available at state institutions.

The President's Office opened applications for the post of information commissioner following the resignation of Hussain Fiyaz Moosa from the position on March 21.
