Addu Emergency Operation Centre (AEOC) has revealed a lockdown has been imposed in Hithadhoo, Addu City, restricting movement without a valid pass. Hithadhoo was placed under monitoring for a period of one week.
Speaking at a press conference, Sub Inspector of Police Yoosuf Looth stated two passes are to be issued per household, with the first pass given from 0800hrs to 1200hrs and the other one from 1200hrs to 1600hrs. The household permits are being given for essential uses and should be obtained through the portal of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), he said.
Moreover, food outlets in Hithadhoo are to be closed for dine-in and takeaway services. However, delivery services can be provided for the residents of the island.
Following the lockdown in Hithadhoo, Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar said the unfortunate situation was not anticipated before, adding stricter measures were necessary due to the worsening COVID-19 situation.
The COVID-19 situation in Hithadhoo worsened due to the rise in cases among foreigners. Currently, there are 82 active cases in Addu City, of which the majority of cases were reported from Hithadhoo.
