The project to upgrade the harbour of Girifushi, Kaafu Atoll has been contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The contract for the project was signed at a ceremony held at Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) headquarters on June 14. The contract was signed by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and the Commandant of MNDF Service Corps Brigadier General Hamid Shafeeq.
Girifushi is operated by MNDF, as the base of its main training centre. The project to upgrade the harbour of the island will include the construction of a 314-metre breakwater and shore protection.
As per the contract, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of the project must be submitted within the next 28 days, and physical works of the project must commence 14 days after EIA is submitted. The total duration given for the project is 145 days. The project costs USD 1.2 million.
