The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has reported that a total of 197,640 tourists visited the Maldives last month, a 2.1 percent increase from 193,529 in the same month last year.
Of last month’s arrivals ,195,390 were leisure tourists while 2,244 travelled for business. Six tourists arrived on cruise ships.
Although the arrivals so far this month has also increased compared to the same period last year, the total arrivals remain lower than last year. While 1,456,930 tourists have arrived so far this year, this is 3.7 percent lower than the 1,513,066 tourists recorded during the same period last year. The Maldives is currently averaging 5,971 tourist arrivals per day.

Of this year’s arrivals, 1,049,380 tourists stayed in resorts, followed by 316,267 in guesthouses. Another 33,417 tourists opted for hotels while 26,490 stayed on liveaboards.
