Parliament condemns Israeli terror attacks against Palestinian civilians

Parliament of the Maldives has strongly condemned the brutal terror attacks conducted by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians.

In a statement issued on May 17, the parliament stated it condemns Israel’s brutal acts of terrorism that has taken the lives of hundreds of innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children. The parliament noted the efforts by Israeli forces to evict Palestinians from their homes, and the targeted attacks on worshippers at the Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem go against international conventions on human rights. The parliament stated the Maldives stands firmly with the people of Palestine and will continue to support Palestine against the terrorist attacks by Israel.

Earlier this week, the Maldives joined the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in calling for an immediate halt to attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. During the Open-Ended Virtual Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee at the Level of Foreign Ministers on May 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid condemned the violent attacks on Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem and Gaza. He further said an internationally agreed two-state solution that establishes an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant resolutions, is the only solution for lasting peace and stability in the region.
