Contracts Awarded for Kulhudhuffushi Tertiary Hospital Design, Six Island Health Centres

The government has awarded contracts for the design of a new building to upgrade Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to tertiary level and for the construction of new facilities at six island health centres.

The projects form part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare services in the atolls, including further development of island health centres, securing additional resources and development of new hospitals.

The design work for the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital building was awarded to Engineering Company Pvt Ltd at a value of over USD 58,365. The work is expected to be completed within three months.

The ceremony also marked the awarding of contracts for new buildings at health centres in Maarandhoo and Baarah of Haa Alifu Atoll, each valued at USD 745,785, to be completed within one year. Both projects were awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

Furthermore, health centre development in Huraa and Kaashidhoo of Kaafu Atoll, Dhidhdhoo of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Fulidhoo of Vaavu Atoll was handed over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a combined value of over USD 1.75 million, for the projects to be completed within a year. Dhidhdhoo Health Centre work was handed over for USD 778,210 to be completed within nine months, while Kaashidhoo Centre work was handed over for USD 460,440 to be completed within seven months. Fulidhoo works were handed over for USD 1.75 million to be completed within a year.

The government stated that improving health services in the atolls to modern standards is essential to reduce dependence on Male’ City for health care. The expansion of health centres and regional hospitals is expected to enhance the country’s overall healthcare system.
