Campaign launched to vaccinate all workers of the tourism industry

Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have launched the “I Am Vaccinated” campaign, aimed at vaccinating all workers of the tourism industry against COVID-19.

The campaign was officially inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom during a ceremony held on April 28. The campaign aims to make the Maldives the first country which operates a fully vaccinated tourism industry.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Tourism Minister Mausoom highlighted the significant progress achieved in vaccinating the staff of the tourism industry as part of the nationwide inoculation drive. As such, the minister noted 99% of resort workers have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. He expressed hope the new campaign will boost the vaccination rate of the tourism industry and establish the Maldives as one of the safest tourist destinations in the world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of MMPRC Thoyyib Mohamed revealed staff who complete their dosage of the COVID-19 vaccine will receive a special badge under the “I Am Vaccinated” campaign. He added resorts, guesthouses and liveaboards that fully vaccinate their staff will be promoted under the Visit Maldives website.

Maldives began its COVID-19 vaccination programme on February 1. So far, over 294,000 people have received the first dose of the vaccine, while over 92,000 people have received their second dose. Vaccination is carried out in 11 vaccination centres and 4 mobile teams in Male’, as well as 240 vaccination centres in the atolls.
