ECM conducts re-registration for second round of elections

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has conducted the re-registration of voters for the second round of the Local Council Elections (LCE) and the Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE) to be held on May 1 and June 5.

ECM is set to conduct re-elections for constituencies where results were tied during the elections held on April 10. ECM accepted applications for re-registration from 0900hrs to 1300hrs on April 27.

Re-elections for the local councils will be held in Thakandhoo in Haa Alif Atoll, Kihaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Raiymandhoo in Meemu Atoll, Dharanboodhoo in Faafu Atoll, Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll and Maavah in Laamu Atoll. Re-elections for the women's development committee will be held in Uligamu in Haa Alifu Atoll, Magoodhoo in Noonu Atoll, Maakurathu in Raa Atoll, Kendhoo in Baa Atoll, Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll.

ECM stated voters who were already registered in these islands or in Male' City were allowed to re-register. ECM has re-registered voters in Villimale' and Hulhumale' to Male', and voters not registered in Male' have been re-registered to their permanent addresses. Voters in Gaadhiffushi and Maavah are not required to re-register.

ECM decided to hold re-lections in Gaadhiffushi and Maavah after receiving complaints that non-residents had voted in the two islands in the LCE.
