Travellers from India required to undergo quarantine, except tourists

Maldives Immigration has stated Maldivian citizens and work visa holders travelling to the Maldives from India are required to undergo home quarantine for 10 days, even if they are vaccinated.

In a tweet, Immigration stated the new policy is effective from April 22. The decision has come following a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases in the neighbouring country.

India's sudden spike in COVID-19 cases has become a major health crisis, with more than 295,000 cases and more than 2,000 deaths being reported on a daily basis. The situation has led to rampant oxygen shortages in the country.

India has reported the second largest number of COVID-19 cases in the world, with over 16.2 million cases. So far, more than 186,000 people have died from COVID-19 in India.
