Foreign Minister thanks Kuwait for its continued assistance to the Maldives over the years

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has expressed gratitude for the continued assistance provided by Kuwait towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives over the years. The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting held with the Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of Kuwait, Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in Kuwait City on April 21.

During the meeting, the two ministers spoke on the long history of cooperation between Maldives and Kuwait, and the cordial people-to-people links and business-to-business ties enjoyed by the two countries. Minister Shahid made special note of the generous support and assistance provided to the Maldives through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives for the invaluable contributions made by Kuwait towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives, over the years.

The two ministers exchanged perspectives on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and discussed strategies to build back better, and become more resilient. Minister Shahid briefed on the Maldives’ National Resilience and Recovery 2020-2022 plan, which focuses on economic diversification and strengthening the social and governance sectors. The two ministers reiterated their commitment to fortify and further diversify the close bilateral relationship between Maldives and Kuwait, and reaffirmed confidence toward working together in the multinational arena on areas of shared interest.
