Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 333,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.
Statistics from the ministry revealed tourist arrivals have been increasing each month, with 92,103 tourist arrivals in January, 96,882 arrivals in February, and 109,585 arrivals in March. A total of 35,358 tourists visited the country in the first 10 days of April, increasing the total number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives so far this year to 333,928. A total of 382,762 tourist arrivals were recorded in the same period in 2020.
The statistics also shows the average daily tourist arrivals per month was 2,971 in January, 3,460 in February, and 3,535 in March. A daily average of 3,536 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this month. The highest number of daily tourist arrivals was recorded at 5,516 on March 26.
Meanwhile, most tourist arrivals were recorded from India, which accounts for 23% of the total tourist arrivals in the Maldives. The second highest number of tourists came from Russia with 21%, and the third highest number of tourist arrivals were from Germany.
Around 703 tourism establishments in the Maldives have opened since the brief closure of borders last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 46,451 beds are currently available in the Maldives, 75% of which are in resorts.
