Maldivian resort rebrands its underwater restaurant with Michelin Star Chef Andrea Berton

You and Me by Cocoon Maldives has rebranded its underwater restaurant to H2O by Chef Andrea Berton.

You and Me by Cocoon Maldives was opened in 2019 with an underwater restaurant. After two years, the resort management decided to rebrand the outlet to H2O by Chef Andrea Berton. It is the first time in the world that an underwater restaurant will be branded and supervised by a Michelin Starred Chef.

A Michelin Star is the ultimate hallmark of culinary excellence. Michelin Stars are awarded to restaurants judged to be of a particularly high standard.

General Manager of You and Me by Cocoon Maldives Ahmed Jihad said it is crucial to shift the traditional methods to a more innovative method while underwater restaurants are increasing in the market. He added hiring a Michelin Star chef is an important step towards revolutionising the restaurant at You and Me by Cocoon Maldives.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of You and Me Resorts Alex Azzola said the norm in the Maldives is bringing in visiting chefs to restaurants. However, he said they have instead decided to hand over the full functioning of the restaurant to Andrea Berton.

Berton, who started working in the kitchen in the 90s, expressed his delight for the offer. In 2005, he began his collaboration with the Ristorante Trussardi alla Scala where he gained the first Michelin Star in 2008 and the second in 2009. In December 2013, he decided to open the Ristorante Berton in Milan, where the broth becomes the protagonist of a real tasting menu. In 2014, he was awarded a Michelin Star, which was replicated in 2016 just 9 months after the opening of the Ristorante Berton al Lago at the hotel Il Sereno on Como Lake.

In addition to the 6-metres below underwater restaurant, Cocoon Maldives offers different tastes from 4 different restaurants.
