Over 298,000 tourist arrivals recorded in first quarter of 2021

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 298,000 tourist arrivals were recorded in the Maldives during the first quarter of 2021.

As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, the Maldives recorded 92,103 tourist arrivals in January, followed by 96,882 arrivals in February. In March, Maldives recorded over 100,000 arrivals for the first time in a single month since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 109,585 arrivals recorded during the month. This took the total number of tourist arrivals for the first quarter of the year to 298,750.

As per the statistics, the average number of tourists visiting the Maldives per day increased to 3,535 in March, compared to 2,971 in January and 3,460 in February. The highest daily figure of tourist arrivals was recorded on March 26, with 5,516 arrivals. Meanwhile, the lowest figure was recorded on March 10, with 2,368 arrivals.

Furthermore, the statistics revealed the largest number of tourist arrivals were recorded from India, with 23.4% of all arrivals this year. Russia is second on the list with 21.3%.

Since the reopening of borders last year, 694 tourist facilities have resumed operations in the Maldives. There are currently over 46,000 tourist beds in operation across the Maldives.
