Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated the Maldives targets to record 300,000 tourist arrivals from India this year.
Speaking to PSM News while participating in the 2021 South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) Expo in India, Tourism Minister Mausoom said the administration is undertaking several efforts to promote the Maldives in the Indian market and boost tourist arrivals from India. Noting India is one of the most important tourist markets for the Maldives, the minister revealed the administration aims to record 300,000 tourist arrivals from India this year.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, India has contributed the largest number of tourists to the Maldives this year. In this regard, over 23% of all tourist arrivals recorded this year have been from India.
Under the travel bubble agreement signed between the Maldives and India, five different airlines are operating a total of 61 weekly flights between the two countries. Further, the national airline Maldivian is preparing to commence direct flights between Maafaru International Airport and Mumbai, India on April 13.
