2,000 tourist beds to be established in Hankede and Savaheli

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has announced plans to develop 2,000 tourist beds in the islands of Hankede and Savaheli in Addu City.

Speaking at an event held for the people of Addu City as part of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s campaign for the upcoming local council elections, Economic Minister Fayyaz said the administration is undertaking special efforts to develop tourism in Addu. As such, the minister noted the administration plans to develop Hankede and Savaheli under the integrated resort development concept, with 2,000 tourist beds to be established in each island. He said the administration is working on formulating the plans for the development of the two islands.

As part of the project to develop tourism in Addu City, the government and the Addu City Council recently handed over 31 plots to be developed as tourist hotels and guesthouses across five major tourism development zones allocated in Addu. These were the first 31 plots to be opened for tender, among the 93 plots allocated for tourism development across the five zones.
