Two more islands of Faafu Atoll to be developed for tourism

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced plans to develop an additional two islands in Faafu Atoll for tourism.

Speaking at an event held for the people of Faafu Atoll as part of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s campaign for the upcoming local council elections, President Solih revealed Embulufushi and Jinnathugau in Faafu Atoll will be opened for resort development later this year. The President noted another three islands in the atoll were leased by the previous administration for resort development, although there is no progress in these islands. He said he is working with the Ministry of Tourism to make a decision on the islands where tourism development has stalled.

There is currently only one resort in Faafu Atoll, which is Filitheyo Island Resort. Developing tourism in Faafu Atoll is a pledge of the administration.
