Over 200,000 tourist arrivals recorded this year

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 200,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded in the Maldives this year.

As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 200,871 arrivals were recorded between January 1 and March 4 this year. This includes 92,103 arrivals in January, 96,882 arrivals in February and 11,886 arrivals during the first four days of March.

The statistics further revealed the largest number of tourists had arrived from India, with 46,541 tourists. Russia is second on the list with 42,417 tourists arriving from the country, while 13,350 arrivals were recorded from Ukraine.

Maldives reopened borders for tourists on July 15 last year, more than three months after borders were closed due to COVID-19. Tourist arrivals have been increasing steadily since the reopening of borders, with February marking the highest number of arrivals since the reopening of borders.

A total of 663 tourist facilities across the Maldives have resumed operations since reopening of borders. This represents a bed capacity of over 45,000.
