Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 44,000 tourist beds have been brought into operation since reopening of borders in July last year.
As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, 44,277 beds have been brought into operation as of February 18. This includes 33,672 beds in resorts, 1,458 beds in hotels, 2,665 beds in liveaboards and 6,482 beds in guesthouses.
A total of 646 tourist facilities have resumed operations since borders were reopened on July 15 last year. This includes 146 resorts, 11 hotels, 137 liveaboards and 352 guesthouses.
The statistics revealed the largest number of active resorts are in Kaafu Atoll, with 47 resorts and 11,338 beds. Meanwhile, Baa Atoll and Alifu Dhaalu Atoll have 16 active resorts each.
The tourism ministry revealed 46 guesthouses in the Greater Male’ Region have been brought into operation since guesthouses in the capital were permitted to reopen last December. This represents a bed capacity of 1,330. The next largest number of active guesthouses are located in Maafushi, with 27 guesthouses and a bed capacity of 1,070.
Number of tourist arrivals has been increasing steadily since the reopening of borders. As per the statistics of the tourism ministry, 151,113 tourists have already visited the Maldives this year.
