Bank of Maldives (BML) has selected five organisations to receive support under this year’s Bank Fund, which is awarded annually by the bank.
The five organisations selected are Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu, Unity Sports Academy, Laamu Farmers Association, Blue Guild Foundation and Kalaidhoo Wings.
Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu will receive funding to establish a dedicated centre, ‘Hive’, in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo, equipped with digital facilities to strengthen community connections. The centre will be dedicated to digital education, innovation and various social activities.
Unity Sports Academy will receive funding to revitalise Maamuli Kulhi, a freshwater lake in Shaviyani Funadhoo, and develop the ‘Maamuli Eco Park’ in the area. The facility will be designed to support environmental conservation and serve various community needs.
Laamu Farmers Association will receive funding to establish the ‘Fahigovaan Value-Added Agro-Processing Hub’ in Laamu Fonadhoo and Laamu Gan. The project will support farmers, provide opportunities to increase their returns, and facilitate the development of farming by taking changes in weather conditions into account.
Blue Guild Foundation will receive funding to establish a ‘Maker Space’ at Shaviyani Atoll School in Kanditheemu to develop students’ skills. The project will help students develop their creativity and gain practical experience.
Kalaidhoo Wings will receive funding to develop ‘Kalaidhoo Wings Hiyaa’ at Laamu Kalaidhoo harbour. The facility will include a waiting area for ferry passengers, toilets, a small library and a digital notice board.
The Bank Fund selects five notable projects each year from proposals submitted to the bank, with each project receiving approximately USD 12,970 in grant assistance.
BML said the fund is intended to empower civil society organisations operating across different parts of the Maldives. The bank said another objective of the fund is to support projects implemented sustainably in island communities.
