Ministry of Tourism has revealed 15 new resorts will be opened in the Maldives this year.
The tourism ministry revealed several new resorts are set to open in the Maldives this year as the tourism industry looks to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ministry did not reveal further details.
The number of resorts which were opened within last year decreased due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. In a previous interview, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said 12 tourist establishments were touted to open within 2020, adding however those establishments could not be opened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to tourism ministry, only 4 resorts were opened last year.
The tourism minister said 2020 had been challenging for the tourism sector of the Maldives, adding however 2021 is promising. The minister expressed hope all these establishments will opened within 2021.
According to reliable sources, some new resorts seeking to open this year include The Ritz Carlton Fari Island Resort, Patina Maldives Fari Islands Resort, Le Meridian Resort and Spa, The Chedi Kudavillingili Cocogiri Island Resort, Address Madivaru Maldives Resort and Spa and Avani Fares Resort.
