Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 40,000 tourist beds have been brought into operation since borders were reopened on July 15.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 40,185 tourist beds are currently in operation, as of December 23. This includes 32,380 beds in resorts, 1,186 beds in hotels, 2,521 beds in safaris and 4,098 beds in guesthouses.
The statistics further revealed a total of 489 tourist facilities have resumed operations since reopening borders. This includes 139 resorts, 10 hotels, 130 safaris and 210 guesthouses.
Tourist arrivals have been increasing over the past few months, with over 142,000 tourist arrivals recorded since border reopening. A total of 66,069 tourists have visited the Maldives in December so far, compared to 35,759 tourists in November.
Maldives reopened its borders for tourists on July 15, more than three months after borders were closed due to COVID-19. Several international airlines have resumed operations to the Maldives since borders were reopened. Several more airlines are scheduled to resume operations within the next few weeks.
