Tourism Ministry Invites Bids for Baarah Hotel Development

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has opened a project to international tender for the development and operation of a tourist hotel on Baarah, Haa Alifu Atoll. The initiative is part of a broader government effort to promote eco-tourism and drive economic growth across the country's outer atolls. The designated site for tourism development in Baarah spans 71,832 square feet.

In preparation for the tender process, the ministry has scheduled a virtual information session for Tuesday, 8 July, at 10 a.m. Interested parties are required to submit their name, email address and telephone number to the ministry's designated email address by 12 p.m. on Monday, 7 July.

Bid documents, according to the ministry, will be made available from Sunday, 29 June, through Tuesday, 19 August. These may be collected in person on working days between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the ministry's reception, or requested via email, it said. Submissions are due by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 20 August, and must be delivered in person to the ministry's headquarters.

During a visit to Baarah last year, part of his broader atoll tour, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu outlined his administration's vision for the island's eco-tourism development, reaffirming his commitment to a flagship project he described as a key opportunity to attract international developers through open tender. According to the president, the venture is expected to generate employment, raise household incomes, and contribute to a higher standard of living for local residents.
