Discussions held on regional and international security issues

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence have held discussions on regional and international security issues concerning the Maldives.

The discussions were held during a meeting held between senior officials of the two ministries, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi. In a tweet posted after the meeting, Foreign Minister Shahid said the discussions focused on the latest issues on regional and international security issues, including counter-terrorism. He noted given the significant role of the Maldives in ensuring a safe and peaceful Indian Ocean, close cooperation between foreign and defence sector is essential.

The meeting was also attended by Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed.
