Ministry of Education has decided to extend the sessions of schools in the atolls starting from next week.
Speaking at a press conference held at Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said the ministry is currently working on the transition from the new normal to the normal situation in schools. In this regard, she revealed the ministry has decided to extend the sessions of schools in islands without the risk of COVID-19 to five hours, and increase face-to-face classes instead of online classes. She said the ministry believes face-to-face learning is more beneficial for students, as it allows them to spend more time with their teachers.
Meanwhile, the education ministry is also preparing to resume classes for grades 9 and 10 in the Greater Male’ Region next week. Classes for grades 11 and 12 were resumed in August to allow students to prepare for the A-Level examinations which are due to begin next week.
The education ministry said all preparations for the examinations have been completed. Noting arrangements have been made for students testing positive for COVID-19 to take their exams, the ministry requested students and parents to inform their respective examination centre immediately if they test positive for COVID-19 or if they have been forced to undergo quarantine.
