President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed gratitude to the government of India following the official handover of USD 250 million as financial assistance to the Maldives.
In a tweet posted following the handover, President Solih stated India has always risen to the occasion whenever the Maldives needed a friend in difficult times. He expressed his sincere gratitude to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the government and people of India for their neighbourly spirit and generosity towards the Maldives.
Ties between India and the Maldives have grown stronger since President Solih assumed office in 2018. India has extended numerous grants and loans to the Maldives over the past two years, including the USD 800 million credit facility extended to finance the infrastructure projects of the administration.
