Procurement of vehicles for Male’ City Council under Indian aid completed

The procurement of vehicles for Male’ City Council under the financial assistance of the Government of India has been completed.

The ceremony to mark the completion of the procurement of vehicles for the Male’ City Council was held virtually on August 23. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir, Male’ City Mayor Sifa Mohamed, officials of the government, Male’ City Council and the High Commission of India in Male’.

A grant of USD 519,000 from the Indian government was allocated to Male’ City Council to procure vehicles and machinery needed to increase the performance capacity and reliability of services provided to the people of Male’ City. Along with the first batch of vehicles which were handed over to the city council earlier in February this year, a total of 16 vehicles have been procured under this project.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Shahid highlighted Male’ City Council has been trusted with many responsibilities and that the procurement of these vehicles and machinery would invariably improve the quality and efficiency of services provided to the residents of the capital city. Mayor Sifa Mohamed also expressed her gratitude to the Indian government for the financial support extended to improve the effectiveness of the work of the city council.

The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million granted to the Government of the Maldives by the Government of India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
