Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has decided to ease some of the clauses in the construction industry regulations amid the State of Health Emergency declared in the Maldives.
The planning ministry announced Clause 35, Subsections A and B of the construction regulations have been eased for the convenience of contractors active in the construction industry amid the health emergency. The clause relates to the submission of financial documents and the work visas of expatriate workers. The revised clause states the employment approval issued by the Ministry of Economic Development can be submitted instead of the work visa cards, while a copy of the work visa card would need to be submitted within 15 days after the visa card is produced.
In addition, the ministry has also decided to revise Clause 12 of the regulations which requires the translation of a registration document written in a foreign language to be attested by the respective embassy or a registered law firm in the Maldives. Under the revised regulations, translated documents need to be submitted within 3 months of returning to a normal situation.
The planning ministry said the revised regulations would be in effect for three months starting from July 23. The ministry said further details on the situations where the eased regulations can be applied can be found on the Second Amendment to the Construction Industry Regulations published in the Government Gazette.
