As part of the ambitious "Maldives 2.0" Digital Transformation Agenda, the government has officially launched the "Digital for All" campaign, a landmark initiative designed to enhance national digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy.
The campaign was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Skills Development, Dr Ismail Shafeeu. He was joined by a high-level ministerial delegation, including the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, the Minister of Health, Family, and Welfare, Geela Ali and the Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Ali Shareef.
The "Digital for All" initiative seeks to bridge the gap between technological access and functional skill. Recognising that the rapid expansion of digital services across the country is not enough on its own, the campaign focuses on providing citizens with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to navigate the digital world effectively. The ultimate goal is to ensure that every Maldivian, regardless of age, can benefit from the opportunities presented by the nation’s digital evolution.
Set to run for three years, the campaign has set an ambitious target of reaching 75,000 people annually, totaling 225,000 participants by the end of its term. The programme is open to citizens of all ages and will be operationalised by The Future Institute in close collaboration with the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Ministry of Education. Technical assistance for the project will be provided by MINDCo.
A comprehensive national framework has already been established to guide the rollout. According to MINDCo, the campaign will cover various specialised areas, and interested participants will undergo an initial assessment to determine their current skill levels.
The rollout will begin with a "training of trainers" programme to build a foundation of local instructors. This will be followed by a pilot programme conducted across six atolls, with priority given to islands with the largest populations. This strategic nationwide approach ensures that the benefits of the digital economy are felt in every corner of the archipelago.
